Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Foundational Assessment?

The Foundational Assessment is the starting point for care at Sunstone. It includes comprehensive lab testing and a 75-minute appointment with Susan to review your results, talk through how you’re feeling and what you want to work toward, and create a plan for what comes next.

Are you my primary care provider?

Think of Sunstone as an addition to your regular medical care, not a replacement for it. We focus on hormone and metabolic health, while your primary care provider continues to take care of your general medical needs.

Do you accept insurance?

Sunstone is a cash-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly. This allows us to spend more time with you and make decisions about your care based on what makes sense for you, rather than what an insurance plan will cover.

Routine lab testing is included in the cost of your care, whether you’re starting with the Foundational Assessment or continuing with ongoing care. Medications, supplements, and testing outside of your Sunstone care are separate. HSA/FSA funds may be used for eligible expenses.

Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes. All Sunstone appointments are virtual, so you can meet with us from wherever you're most comfortable. You must be physically located in Utah at the time of your appointment.

Do I have to join the membership after the Foundational Assessment?

No. The Foundational Assessment stands on its own. There’s no obligation to continue into a membership after your Foundational Assessment. If you want ongoing care afterward, we can talk about the membership and decide if it makes sense for you.

What happens after I schedule a Discovery Call?

We’ll meet for a short virtualvideo call so you can ask questions, learn a little more about Sunstone, and decide if you’d like to move forward with the Foundational Assessment.

Who is Sunstone NOT a good fit for?

Sunstone may not be the right fit if you’re looking for one provider to take care of all of your medical needs. We focus on hormone and metabolic health and work alongside the care you already receive from your primary care provider. We do not prescribe or manage medications for pain, ADHD, anxiety, or sleep, including benzodiazepines and other controlled medications used for these conditions.

Do you prescribe weight-loss medications?

Weight-loss medications may be an option for some patients, but they aren’t the starting point for everyone. We’ll look at your health, lab results, goals, and what you’ve already tried before deciding together whether medication makes sense as part of your plan.
